The Lincoln Wheat Ears Cent (sometimes referred to as a Wheat penny, a Wheatback, a Wheat Head, or a Wheatie) was produced from 1909 to 1958. Both the obverse and the reverse were designed by Victor David Brenner, a New York sculptor. Brenner's initials, V.D.B., were included on the reverse of the coin below the two stylized wheat stalks on a limited number of the coins until public controversy forced their removal. Brenner's initials were restored to the obverse, below Lincoln's shoulder, in 1918. What an excellent addition to any Lincoln Wheat Penny collection. Brenner's initials, V.D.B., were included on the reverse of the coin below the two stylized wheat stalks on a limited number of the coins until public controversy forced their removal. Lincoln Wheat Penny Auction Description: Here is a "Key Date" to the Lincoln Cent series up for your consideration. It is a 1909-S uncirculated Lincoln Cent that has been certified MS64RD by PCGS. It has nice red color, and also has some slight toning...I guess you would call it. It gives it a slightly darker red color. I am not sure what kept this coin from a grade of MS65RD? Probably that slight darkening...maybe the reverse? The obverse looks to me to be MS65RD...but I am arguing with PCGS, and what is the real difference in that 1 point? Anyway, Collector's Universe lists this date at $700.00 in MS64RD and $1350.00 in MS65RD. Out of 1042 "RD" pieces in the PCGS population report, all but 44 are graded MS64RD and above. There are 447 in 64RD and 424 in 65RD. Then you have 120 in 66RD, and only 7 in 67RD($40,000.00 each)! Anyway, bidding will start at 99 Cents with only *$1.99 Shipping!
